Description
A cylinder seal was worn around the neck of ancient peoples to be used as a signature to authenticate business transactions. They were made from clay, precious stones and limestone. The symbols etched on the seal are the means by which origin is determined. Those on this seal identify it as coming from the Hittite civilization, about the middle of its prominence. The Hittites were a civilization more ancient than Assyria, Babylonia or Mesopotamia. In fact, it is now believed that it once encompassed most of what became the Holy Land of antiquity.
