Laden with over two years of accumulated treasure, a twelve-ship Spanish convoy left Cuba to return to Spain on July 24, 1715. A few days out of Cuba, while off the east coast of Florida, a hurricane bore down on the convoy and sunk eleven of the ships. Hundreds of crew and passengers lost their lives and millions of gold and silver Cobs, Ingots and other treasure were scattered many miles apart. read more
