Vespasian,
Took With Force,
Ruled by Peace
|
|
|
Vespasian
was the first emperor to successfully take Rome by force
of arms. Although he depended on his armies to keep him
in power, Vespasian did not pursue a career of conquest,
instead emphasizing the peace he brought to the empire after
foreign wars and civil discord. He kept a tight rein on
the army while allowing the senate at least a semblance
of authority. read

The
Dictator Julius Caesar
|
|
|
Few
names in history ring with the familiarity of Julius Caesar,
for he was one of the world's most remarkable leaders. It's
impossible to tell how the course of history would have
changed had Julius Caesar not fallen victim to a plot against
his life on the Ides of March, 44 BC. read

Geta,
Septimius
Serverus' Second Son
|
|
|
Born
Publius Septimius Geta in AD 189 in Rome, Geta was the younger
son of Septimius Severus and Julia Domna. Geta's elevation
to Caesar took place in AD 198, in the same year that Caracalla
was made Augustus. It appears that Caracalla was being groomed
as the heir to the throne, and Geta was at best a substitute,
should anything happen to his older brother. This undoubtedly
contributed to the rivalry that existed between the two
brothers.
