was founded by Alexander the Great in the 4th century BC.
India and Persia long fought over the city, which was strategically
located on the trade routes of Central Asia. It was conquered
by Arabs in the 7th century and by the Turkic Ghaznavids
in the 10th century, and Jenghiz Khan, commonly called "Genghis
Khan", sacked it in the 12th century. In the 18th century
it was made the capital of the newly emerging Afghan Kingdom.

Sassanids of Ancient Persia

Sassanids were last dynasty of native rulers to reign in
Persia before the Arab Conquest. The period of their dominion
extended from 224 AD, when the Parthians were overthrown
until 640 AD, when the country fell under the power of the
arabs. The name of the Dynasty was derived from Sassan,
an ancestor of the founder of the dynasty, Ardashir I. Shapur
I was king of Persia from 241 until 272 AD. He was the son
and successor of Ardashir I, of the Sassanian Dynasty.
